AFTER a year’s absence, the Wesley Powell Heart Institute Track and Field meet will return today with its 18th staging on the grounds of Excelsior High School on Mountain View Avenue.
The meet, which features irregular distance events on the track and that is run on a nine-lane grass surface, was called off at the last minute last year because of not getting approval from the Government because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Approval was granted by the Government a few days ago but no spectators will not be allowed inside the venue. Coaches, however, will get a chance to see what kind of shape their athletes are in going into the Christmas break as several high school and a few college teams are down to participate.
On the track athletes will compete in 150m, 300m, 600m, 1000m, 3000m for females and 5000m for males while there will be long jump and shot put events in the field.
At today’s meet, COVID-19 protocols will be strictly adhered to as each team is expected to have its own tent while an adult from each team will act as a COVID marshal.
