Samantha James and Ryiem Robertson established two records earlier yesterday at the Wesley Powell Heart Institute of the Caribbean (HIC) track and field meet at the Excelsior High School.
James, running unattached, won the Class One 600m in 1:35.78 minutes, well below Derri-Ann Hill’s previous record of 1:37.31 set in 2014.
James, the sister of IAAF Under-20 400m champion Tiffany James, won the time final comfortably ahead of St Jago High’s Alesha Kelly with 1:41.31 minute and Tawana Allen of Camperdown High with 1:41.70.
Meanwhile, Robertson of Jamaica College (JC) lowered the Class Two 150m record of 17.31 seconds set by Obrien Waysome in 2012 to 17.19 seconds. Shemar Willis was second best with 17.63 ahead of JC’s Tarjmar Miller with 17.72 seconds.
Robertson was also quicker than the Class One champion Imar Tomlinson of Excelsior High, who won in 17.33 seconds. His teammate Brandon Robinson was second-best in 17.54, while St Catherine High’s Ashanie Smith was third with 17.55 seconds.
